Powerful Amr Diab

Saudi Arabia's Prince Alwaleed has topped the list of the world's most powerful Arabs for the third year running. The list was published this morning, simultaneously for the first time in both Arabian Business English and Arabian Business Arabic.

This year's Power List contains a record 100 names, including 19 females and over 60 new entries. Arabian Business editor James Bennett said: "This year we have considered people not just from business, but entertainment, the arts, science and the academic world. We started with 500 names, and with our panel of experts from various fields, came to decide what we see as the 100 most influential Arabs on the planet."

The list deliberately excludes royalty or politicians, although some members of royal families such as Sheikh Ahmed have been included purely because of their business interests. A number of pop stars also feature this year, including Amr Diab at No.38 and Haifa Wehbe at No.53. Full list of the Top 100

I hope he likes spinach

CAIRO: ...Adel Adeeb, head of the Cairo-based film production company Good News for Film and Music ... other movies on the company's production slate include a biopic of the founder of modern Egypt, Muhammad Ali Pasha, and the first Arab celluloid version of Sinbad the Sailor. "Sinbad is Arab, and no one from the Arab world has dared produce a film about it," said Adeeb. "There will be both an English and Arabic version of the film."

Amr Diab, a successful Arab pop singer, will take on the title role in the film, which would mark the start of the first film franchise in the Arab world, he said.

Egypt enjoyed its cinematic heyday from the 1940s to the 1960s with actor Omar Sharif enjoying global renown, but the slump set in the 1970s. Only recently has Egypt's movie industry begun to recover, according to Adeeb.

"We have great technicians and artists, but they don't know how to market themselves. Our company is helping to change that," he said.

June 10th release date

Star Amr Diab is having an artistic emergency in order to put final touches on his album " Khaleek maaya ",which is considered the last one with Rotana company, after he has decided to split up with it for good, and has already settled on eight songs amongst twenty, after listening to them, and would be totally done with his album by the end of April, when it would be ready to be handed to Rotana company, his producer, where he has agreed with it on launching date to be on June 10th, which will be the birthday of his daughter " Nour ".

Amr has always used to launch his albums on dates of his important events, like his Birthday or Anniversary. And after the album launching, he would re-continue to go on his European tours, flying straight to Russia, Turkey and USA, coming back to Egypt after that to start making his movie " EL Helm " or the dream, acting the story of his real life in it, scenes to be taken between Port Said and Las Vegas.

Amr Diab criticized the campaign that attacked him by one of the weekly magazines, which he considered as cheap journalism, finding cheap ways for the sake of huge distribution, confirming that he doesn’t care about this kind of criticism, as well as the rumors that break out every now and then. Amr had already denied what had been reported about the dispute he had with the poet " Magdy el Naggar ", where he goes back to work with him, writing for Amr the lyrics of two songs, which are "Allah aleeha" and "Bakoulha keteer", and the poet "Baha-a el deen Mohamad" writing the lyrics of two other songs "Kalbaha mal" and "Kaletly koul".

Amr didn’t seem to care about the questions asked by some if he fights new generations, confirming that what has been going on is just the opposite, and that he has supported many of the new generations, pushing them forward, which was something witnessed and reported in his past history, and he hopes for the new generations to pursue their singing career with success and flourishing, for Amr considered supporting new comers as a bonus for him, and not the opposite at all.
