Rotana cuts prices of Amr Diab

The Production Company Rotana has surprisingly reduced the sales price of the albums by Egyptian singer Amr Diab “El Lailah Di” (This Night) and Lebanese singer Pascal Mashalaani’s album “Akhid Aqli” (you took my mind), despite the fact that only a few days have passed since their launching. The price of each CD is close to 4 US dollars in Beirut, Lebanon; where Najwa Karam’s Album “Haida Haki” is being sold at $10 per CD.

The reason is unclear to why there is a difference between the prices of the albums that are produced by Rotana. The marketing manager at Rotana justifies the reason behind reducing Diab’s album is the fact that recently it was leaked and distributed on the Internet before it was officially released.

On the other hand Pascal’s album was reduced because it was released around the same time as Diab’s album was released and in order for the company to make any profit they must keep the price low. Yet Najwa Karam’s album kept its original price, because the marketing and sales division of the company must obtain permission from the owner of Rotana Prince Al Walid Bin Talal to make any changes.

According to the London daily Elaph, the marketing manager sees that there should be stricter rules on copyrights especially in Lebanon and Egypt. Rotana does not face the problems of copyrights in Jordan and Syria since it relies on specified distributors who have exclusive rights to distribute the albums and violators, who pirate the albums, are prosecuted. Rotana has stated that the fact of copying the albums and downloading them on the Internet has tremendously hurt the sales of the albums. Link

Million Pound Revenge

Famous Egyptian singer Amer Diab’s name has recently been in the news, as part of every rumor in the music business. According to the Qatari daily Al Raya, rumor has it that the production company Rotana, who is the producer of his last album “Al Laylah Di” (This Night), has sold him out. It was said that the production company had leaked out the songs of his new album before the album was out in stores.

The company is also accused of distributing pirated CD’s in order to increase its profits. The company wants also to gain as much as it can from the fame of the Egyptian singer. Diab was outraged to hear of such news and decided to retaliate in his own way.

When Diab heard that the production company is selling pirated CD’s he increased his wage to a million Egyptian pounds for any concert he holds. The news of the increase in wage came as a shock in the music business, because no one has ever asked for this large amount of money.

Diab’s concerts tickets will be raised as a result of his large salary. The summer is the season for all the live concerts and other singers will start to raise their salary as well.

Close people to the famous singer pointed out that Amr stated that he does not hold private concerts, like at wedding parties for the rich and famous, only because the pay is high and only the rich can afford him.

On a different note, Egyptian singer Tamer Husni has accused Diab of imitating him especially in his (Amr’s) album poster. The cover of Diab’s latest album shows him without a top shirt and wearing lots of necklaces. Tamer had the same look in his last film “Amro wa Salma” (Amro and Salma). Tamer stated that Amr had taken the idea from him for the cover of his new album. Link

Only the cover springs a leak

It has become a habit that as the release date for a new album by Egyptian star Amr Diab approaches, fans around the Arab world and abroad become extremely anxious and eager to discover what new surprises the singer has for them. Many critics describe Amr’s albums as hot loafs of bread thateveryone waits in line to get.

A few weeks ago, an official announcement that the release date of the album, which is titled “Al Laila Di” (This Night) would be on July 7. The company Voda Phone began its promotional campaign for the album by releasing sections of some of the songs and posters were hung all around Cairo.Only a couple days after the announcement, a rumor began that some of the songs of the album have been leaked, a matter that is not unusual to Amr and had occurred several times in the past. The rumor of the leaking of the song was proven to be false and what was leaked was only the cover of the album.

The designer of the album cover was accused of leaking the design, despite the fact that the logo and phone numbers of the production company, which are additions placed by the company and not the designer, are on the cover.

Fans were shocked and extremely disappointed when a new announcement was made that the album will be postponed and the new release date has been set to be on either the 15th or 20th of the current month.Rotana refused to make any comments regarding the news of the leak of the album cover or any detail about the album, stating that they leave all matters that concern the album up to the singer to talk about. Rotana did confirm the postponing of the album to the 15th as a final date for the release. Link

Drama Surrounding Amr Diab’s Album!

Critics have described Amr Diabs albums as a hot piece of bread that everyone wants a slice of and can’t wait for, but as always with Amr’s album there is a lot of drama surrounding it! First there was the rumor of the album being leaked, several people claimed that the whole album could be found online and on mobile phones but in reality it seemed that the rumor came about when the cover for the album was leaked and people assumed the songs came with it. After the leaking of the cover for the album and the song leaking rumor proving false Vodafone started offering snippets of the album for its users’ phones and the countdown for the album began!

The album titled ‘Elleyladi’ (Tonight) was set to be released on the 7/07/2007 but recently a source close to Amr said that the album’s release has been delayed! As can be imagined fans went wild but no one was sure until reporters called Rotana. Rotana who are being very discreet about this album told reporters that the album has been delayed to the 15th!

I think it’s terrible what’s being done to the fans giving them hope for a release then being disappointed! But I’m 100% sure that the album will make it up to Amr Diab’s loyal fans!
